proud birthmama

i got an email from kristi and riley (seth's parents). they informed me that seth loves school, loves numbers and math, loves to play yhatzee, and....are you ready? is in the chess club! yes, at 6 (almost 7) years old he loves chess! how crazy smart is that for a 7 year old?? i was so proud that i've been telling everyone how smart he is. as i sat thinking about everything that he knows, and the amazing family that he has...it hit me like a ton of bricks....his family has everything to do with how smart he is....sure i think we are all born with a certain mental capacity...but it's all up to parents to teach, and provide oportunities to make us smarter, to teach us how to learn and study....and his parents have done that (and more) for him. if i had chose to parent him he wouldn't be as smart and well rounded as he is now. as much as it hurts me to say that, i know it's true...and it makes me proud that i found and placed him with the family that was perfect for him. it makes me proud that he is who he is. what an amazing little boy. what an amazing family he has. my heart is bursting right now with happiness, a little sadness (i still miss him like crazy), but mostly....pride for that little baby that i brought into the world almost 7 years ago and has now grown into a fantastic little boy.
