advise from all you experienced mamas

here's my question...when did you all start putting your kids in real shoes? and where did you get them? what are your favorite brands? stone is almost 15 months and walks everywhere now, and we've just had him in little crib shoes, but does he need to start learning to walk in real shoes now? should i wait a little longer? and i really don't want to spend a bunch of money on shoes that he's gonna grow out of in 3 months. what are your thoughts?

Definitely not an expert on this but when Trevin started walking (right about 11 months) we bought him his first pair of shoes so that he would get used to walking in them. I bought a pair of Champion tennis shoes from Payless and then once he wore those out we went to Nike's and have been kind of stuck on that brand since. The nice thing is, they will usually wear out their shoes right about the time that they are ready for a bigger size! Good luck!

Oh man. You might as well just light your money on fire! I sweat shoes eat up so much! But they have to have them! I am a stickler about paying to much for them and they can get expensive, the best place for boys I have found is Childrens place, just watch for their coupons. Also kohls has good ones, just makes sure they are on sale. Its ture, they dont wear them long! So just buy one that can go with everything, cause before you know it they will need another pair, good luck... oh and try to stay away from laces, its to big of a pain!

i had madilyn in shoes early- when she was crawling, i put her in soft soled shoes (little guess ones from kid to kid) and then when she walking, i put her in split soled shoes. once she was walking confidently, i put her in regular roxy sneakers (from nordstrom rack). my favorite place has been kid to kid- almost every single one of her pairs has been from there. but you can find sweet deals from old navy and gap too- like 2 and 4 dollar shoes on clearance. and i always put madilyn in shoes slightly to big so that she'll wear them longer... good luck!

Cyn here, stopping by via Chelsi's blog and wanted to share my two sense. Walking without shoes is actually better for young feet and their development. The toes are part of balance and are needed for walking. So I don't put shoes on my babies unless we are outside and it is cold, and not until after they have really gotten the hang of walking.

Something else to note is that the shoes should be able to bend really easily, so semi soft soled. Not quite moccasins (although those are good for beginner walkers) but not with a thick hard sole like the shoes at Walmart.
