reviews

so i was going through a lot of my older blog posts, and i realized that i used to report on any movies and/or TV shows that i saw...i also realized that i haven't done this in a while, so i'm going to give you my opinion on a few things.1- greys anatomy: i used to be a fan of the show, but this season doesn't seem to have the same greatness that the others have had. maybe it's because george bit the dust (he was my fave), or because izzie has been MIA (what's the deal there?), maybe now that mcdreamy and merideth are married the frusterating drama is gone...whatever it is the show just isn't holding my attention like it used to, but i still have to watch because i've followed it this long and i have to know how things end up.

2- dear john: it was a super cute movie (not as good as the notebook...but what is?). now when i say cute i mean it's not a show that your hubbys or boyfriends would enjoy even a tiny bit (josh would have sat next to me and died if he had to sit through it) it's a great show to go and see with the girls though! it's got a cute story, some tear jerker moments (i didn't cry tho...which i'm quite suprised about), a few good laughs, and a little bit of eye candy. what more does a movie need?
3-new moon: ok...i know i don't need to say anything about new moon because you have all seen it and it was FANTASTIC! i liked it better than twilight. the acting was great, i felt like it folllowed the book pretty well, there was some good comedy, some heartache (how sad is it when he leaves her in the woods?), more than your fill of shirtless warewolves, and i loved the special effects. can't wait till this one comes out on DVD (march 20th ladies!).
4- the host: i had a hard time getting into the story, but now that i've pushed through the first little bit of it i'm really enjoying the story, and find myself wondering what's going to happen next. if you have started reading the host and then just couldn't get into it....try again...push through the first 80 or so pages and you won't be sorry.

5- dark tower series: i know that stephen king has a reputation of writing mostly scary books, but this series is fantastic. it's weird, and confusing, and yes sometimes it's a little scary. but the story is amazing and the characters are so great. i so wish that these 7 (yes 7!) books would be made into movies. oh and if you are at all familiar with other stephen king books you will be amazed at how this series and all of his other books weave together....amazing!
6- private practice: still love this show!

7- bones: love love love bones! the first few seasons were the best, but this new one is good. if you haven't seen bones netflix it!

8-24: new york is about to get jacked! we are hooked on 24 (i can't say that i love freddie pince jr. character yet tho). so far this season has been ok..but i hear that it gets GREAT later in the season, so we are hanging in there...we love that jack is back!

the invention of lying

this weekend josh and i decided to go on a little date (because who knows when we will get the chance again?). we ran a few errands (like getting my ring cleaned, dropping the dogs off for haircuts, and investigating what our options are for wiring the new house for speakers) we went to lunch at cafe rio (yum!) and then we went to the movie "the invention of lying".it was a pretty cute movie...funny, clever, and there were some fun movie star cameos that i wasn't expecting (like edward norton as a super funny cop). i'm not gonna say that it was fantastic...and that you should run right out and see it (in fact i would wait till it comes out on video and then netflix it), but it was pretty cute, and the most important part is that i was out with my hubby having a great afternoon just the two of us!

busy....but the good kind

so we had a fairly busy weekend. we had dinners with families, home repairs and improvments (which included painting some of the babys room, and hanging new curtains that my mom in law made...i'll post pictures later cuz they look really cute in our bedroom), grocery shopping, and the most exciting part was that josh took me to harry potter! i'm not a raving fan by any means but i was super excited to see this one. i don't wanna say too much in case some haven't seen it yet, but it was pretty good. i have to admit that i was a little dissapointed at some things....but also pleasantly suprised at others. i think i'll like it more when i see it again (yes i plan on seeing it more than once), but it really was pretty good...the effects were great...the acting was fantastic...and the humor in it was fun. all in all...i give it an A-.
before we went to the movie...we were sitting at home and the baby started to move more than ever...and josh saw it for the first time. he was moving like crazy and we were loving it! josh kept saying that stone wants out and it looked like he was gonna bust right out of my skin at some points. it was fun...i love that part of being pregnant.
i felt like we got a lot done this weekend, and i'm starting to feel like my nesting needs are being met.

summer weekends

i love the weekends...but i REALLY love the weekends in the summer. it seems like we always have something fun to do (and even if we don't...lounging in the sun and just being together is enough for me). this weekend we had the dunting task of cleaning out the spare bedroom to make room for the new addition to the family. neither of us were looking forward to it, but it wasn't too bad. once we figured out what we wanted/needed to keep in the house and what could be moved to the storage shed it really wasn't too bad...in fact it was kinda fun to go through old stuff that we hadn't looked at (or even remembered that we had) for over a year. my father in law came over with his truck and helped us move all the big stuff over and then we went to lunch at my new favorite...cafe rio! all the clearing out took care of some of my newly found nesting needs as well (two birds with one stone! haha...get it?). we didn't get everything compleatly finished...but we are pretty darn close to having room for our baby boy.
later saturday afternoon we made a trip over to the park to hang with jermey and jenny and their family and it turned out being a lot of fun. the boys played baseball and us gals sat in the shade and chatted...it was just a fun low key afternoon.
sunday morning brought our annual trip to wyoming for fireworks (even though we still had a whole box left from last year)! we took the morning and made the beautiful drive and i enjoyed every minuet of it (all this reain has made everything prettier that it usually is). we got some good (illegal) fireworks, and this is what my kitchen table looked like after inventory was taken. we are planning on doing our firework show this coming weekend...hopefully friday, but the weather is supposed to be crappy so maybe sunday night. after we got home from wyoming i was invited to a movie with my sister in laws and my mother in law. we went to see "my sisters keeper" and it was so good! heartbreaking, a total tear jerker, and made me think of what i would do if i was put in this situation (i love movies that make you FEEL things). i would totally recomend this movie to anyone. so good!
so this coming weekend is my favorite holiday...and i feel like it kinda just snuck up on us this year. i love the 4th...and im so excited for the melaluca fireworks (hopefully the weather holds out)! for me this marks the beginning of summer....and i love summer!

australia

i watched the movie "australia" over the weekend (josh refused to watch it with me...he hates nicole kidman). i watched it while josh was golfing 18 holes...and i LOVED it!i'm not a huge nicole kidman fan but i thought the movie was great. i laughed, i cried, and there were even a couple of time that i gasped out loud and covered my mouth (just remember that i was alone...it was kinda funny), and who wouldn't love hugh jackman shirtless, rugged, and with an accent?? nice! it was a pretty clean movie...no nudity, very little language, and as far as violence (it does take place during WW2) it wasn't too bad...it wasn't bloody violence, mostly just the idea of violence. this is a movie i think i might have to own!
we also watched "sweeny todd" a few days ago. we are both jonny depp fans (me more than josh...jonny might just be my fave), and we had heard great things about this one. josh was suprised to find out that it was a musical (by the end he wanted to find the soundtrack to download from the internet), and i was suprised at how fake violent it was....super fake bloody. jonny depp was awesome to watch in this role tho...all the acting was good. it was a dark movie, and a little predictable....but super creative and worth seeing (if you don't mind the blood and the creepyness). it's one i would watch again.

are you as excited as i am?

so i just saw the first trailer for new moon! you wanna see it too??

i realize that i've been all about movie clips lately...but this is one that couldn't NOT be on my blog. i'm so excited for november! i'm not one to get hung up on things that just "aren't right" about a movie (cuz hey....i couldn't make one), so i won't go into the two things that bother me just a little bit about the trailer...but i will say that i'm super excited for the birthday scene, the scene where edward leaves looks painful, and jacob (even tho i don't really like him) looks umm...great. anyone else as excited as i am?

Slumdog

we finally watched "slumdog millionaire"over the weekend. we put it on our netflix after all the hype it got from the academy awards (we had never heard of it before then), and we have had it sitting at our house for three weeks! last night it was pouring rain so we thought it was a perfect time to watch it. it was FANTASTIC! i'll be honest...i wasn't sure how much i was going to like it because most of the movies that win the majority of awards are a little weird and hard to follow, but i'm so glad that we saw this one! if anyone hasn't seen it yet i strongly recommend it. if you have seen it...what did you think?

odds and ends

not a lot has really been going on with us lately...we are kinda boring (ok...i'm the one who is boring...all i wanna do lately is sleep). we had a fun weekend. we started it off by watching "marley and me" .super cute movie....but it's terrible!!!! josh and i both BAWLED....i'm not exaggerating....we were literally sobbing at the end (ok i cried a lot of the way through it...but i'm overly emotional so that doesn't count). maybe it's because we are dog people...or maybe it's because we have an old dog who we love so much...i dunno but wow...i can't remember the last movie that made me cry like that. it really was a fantastic show (i don't think i'll watch it again tho), jennifer aniston and owen wilson are so great in this one, and the story is so cute. i have the book and i haven't read it yet...and now i'm not sure that i could read it....we'll see. but i totally recommend this movie if you are in the mood for a cute story/ tear jerker.

on saturday josh went golfing and i slept in till after 10 (it was sooo nice). that evening we got together with josh's assistant manager and his wife and went to dinner and a movie. we saw "fast and furious".
i was a fan of the first movie, not so much of the middle 2, and this one was pretty cool. i wasn't super crazy about the story line...but there was enough action scenes and fantastic cars (they brought in a lot of good old american muscle) to make up for it. i was glad to see that some of the original cast was back (at least the most important ones). it was worth seeing...but wait till it comes out on dvd...then rent it.
sunday was my little brothers birthday so we went up to the burg for and easter/ birthday dinner. the food was great, and the company was super fun (it's not that often that me and all of my brothers, spouses, and parents are all together anymore), my brothers and i can have fun no matter what we do. all in all it was a fun weekend.
now it's monday again and we have another week to work through. tomorrow seth turns 5! i can't believe that it has already been 5 years since i was at the hospital with him thinking that there was no way that i could place him with another family...that there was no way that my heart could take that kind of pain....but it's been 5 years, and i did what was best, and he's such a happy, smart, cute, amazing little boy. all of the pain and heartache was totally worth the life that he has...the family that loves him....and the smile that see in every single picture. i'm so glad that he is happy!
on a depressing note....josh and i should be on our way to cabo right now, in fact, we could be there right now! it's been so sad to think that we are here in the cold and rain when we could be in an amazing resort, sipping tropical drinks, and hanging out on the beach. but it's ok because we have planned to go to seattle in may. we know that it's not tropical, or super warm there. but it's something that we will both love and it gets us out of town for a week. we are planning on going over our 3 year anniversary...so that will be fun! i can't wait!
at 11 weeks i'm feeling great (just tired and hungry), and i count myself very lucky! it just seems like october is never going to get here. i know i'll look back and think that it went by in a flash, but as of right now it seems like an eternity.

sick weekend

josh got home thursday night and he was sick and friday i didn't feel well either, so we were both home sick over the weekend. i hate being sick, and even though we were sleeping most of the weekend (or at least thats how it felt), it was nice to get to be home doing nothing together. we watched a lot of 24 (so glad to have jack back), played video games, watched the jazz lose (twice), and watched a movie or two.
we had the movie "milk" sent to us through netflix, and we thought it was a great movie. yes it's about the "gay movement", and yes you see guys kissing and flirting and all that (which isn't something that we love to see...), but it's a very inspiring true story, and sean penn is FANTASTIC! so for those of you who have an open mind to this kind of stuff should see it. it's rated "R" mostly for language and a little violence, and it's an extreamly controversial subject....but we were impressed.
we are back to work today...still not feeling great, but well enough to be out of the house. now i just wish the day was over so i could go back home and go back to bed.

taken

so yesterday josh and i decided to go on a little date to the movie...just the two of us. we had an edwards gift card that we had recieved for christmas (thanks ben and holls), so we thought that this would be a perfect time to use it. we don't usually get movie treats when we go see a movie...because let's face it....it's a freakin rip off! but we were able to use our gift card for treats as well and since what was left on the card wasn't going to get both of us into another movie on another day (because matinee movie tickets have jumped up to 7 bucks each!) so we went ahead and got a drink, goobers, and sour patch kids (wow candy at the movies is pricey).
the movie we saw was "taken" and it was GREAT! i'm all about action movies and this one didn't dissapoint. most action movies anymore are really violent, lots of bad language, and a lot of naked women...but this one wasn't like that. sure there was some violence, but it wasn't anything that grossed me out (and if you wanna knew the truth...it doesn't take much to make me wanna hurl). liam neeson was great...in fact...as far as action goes, he might give jack bauer/ keifer sutherland a run for his money.
all in all it was a fun date afternoon for us, and if you haven't seen "taken" yet...you really should.

Grease is the word

This morning I woke up to the song "Summer Nights" from the Grease soundtrack and it's been in my head ever since...the song being in my head lead to quotes ("A hickey from Kinickey is like a Hallmark card...when you care enough to send the very best") which lead to images (ahhh nice!)which consequently lead to this post.
I don't think there is a better musical out there...don't get me wrong, I loved Footloose and The Sound of Music, but Grease is just....better. I don't remember when I first saw Grease but I remember that I have loved it ever since. I always thought that I would make a great Rizzo (I know I could rock that "Pink Ladies" jacket), but who didn't secretly want to be Sandy? Come on...she had the voice, the look, and she gets to make out with Danny (John Travolta...who is much better looking in Grease than about any other movie...must be the "bad boy" thing...and the T-Birds coat). I love the energy (let's face it...The Sound of Music has no real energy) and the 50's feel. I love the cars, the diner, the clothes (I dig poodle skirts), the chessey inuendos and the fact that we can see a little bit of our own "youth" in the movie. Wether you knew a "Danny Zuko" or had friends like "Rizzo" and "Frenchy", you can totally relate to the movie.
So here's a tribute to Grease. Pictures and music....and I found these interviews on YouTube. They are kinda long....but fun to see.

Now I'm totally in the mood to go home and watch it and sing along to every song.Does anyone else love the movie or am I alone in all of this?
(Don't worry...the Grease music will only be on here until my next post....I don't wanna overdo it)

Twilight Gets a B

That's just my opinion. I know some of you haven't seen it yet so I'll try not to give anything away (but just in case you might wanna wait to read this until after you see the movie).
I'm not the person who gets upset because the movie didn't follow the book exactly...it's only BASED on the book...I get that. I was willing to look past the fact that the Cullens house didn't look anything like the book described....and that the meadow scene wasn't accurate at all....that kind of stuff is all fine by me, but the thing that bothered me the most was that the rest of the Cullen family wasn't in the movie hardly at all!You see them...and you know that they are there but you don't see any of them reacting with each other much. If you hadn't read the book you wouldn't know that the family was close at all...you would just assume that they just live in the same house. The other thing that bothered me is that I didn't feel like the movie flowed at all. It felt like there was big event after big event but nothing in between to connect them all together. All of the fun in between stuff isn't there (like finding out that Emmet's favorite food is grizzly, or that Alice is HUGE into fashion, or why Rosalie is a HUGE bitch), and you don't find out how any of them became what they are!

There were a lot of good parts to the movie tho...I felt that the music fit in great with the movie, and every scene with James was really cool. The filming was done nicely I thought, and the baseball scene was super fun to see.I felt that most of the casting was great (Emmet was great), and there was a lot of fun comic relief. All in all I thought it was pretty good...and I think I'll see it again, knowing what I know this time around I think will make it better. Did anyone else see it? What did you think?
And I know that this has nothing to do with Twilight but here is a picture of me with little Mya punkin at the hospital...isn't she the sweetest?

Are We Excited?!

So I just watched the new offical trailer for TWILIGHT! It's gonna be so good and I'm so excited! Aren't you?

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high becuase the books are ALWAYS better than the movie...but I almost can't help it. The cast they have chosen is amazing ( I think Emmet is a hottie), the music gives me chills, and the photos I have seen look soo great! I just can't help but be excited. I'll be at the movie opening night, and I'm sure I'll see a few of you there.
